In our country, all people are said to be protected by a “presumption of innocence”:  that is, an indictment, accusation or police arrest does not mean you are guilty.  But this protection may seem pretty thin if you have been arrested and jailed, and the presumption of innocence may seem more like a legal theory than a practical reality.

If  you are charged with a crime, important legal rights may be waived if you do not take immediate steps to preserve them.   We handle misdemeanor and felony charges  in and around the Athens area.  If you are charged with a crime, call us as soon as possible.  We can assist you with all facets of your case from the beginning in assisting in getting a bond all the way through a jury trial.  The sooner you retain an attorney the better: often decisions that are made early on in a criminal case shape the entire proceedings that follow.

Each criminal case is different, but the general process for many criminal cases is very similar. For a brief review of the process see section below entitled Court Process.
